Happy birthday CHEERS!

That place where "everybody knows your name" opened its doors this week in 1982.

“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name… and they’re ALWAYS GLAD you came…”

Just the first few words of the “Cheers” theme song sparks up feelings of nostalgia; sitting at an iconic bar, having fun with friends after a long day of work, or if you were anything like Norm… avoiding going home to your significant other for fear of having to own up to one’s spouse.

And, like some shows, Cheers was not an overnight success.  It had a different feel and vibe than many slapstick sitcoms of the 1970s like “All In The Family” or “The Jeffersons.”  It took a few years to be “Must See TV” as we knew it, but once it WAS, it was ELECTRIC.

So, raise a glass to Sam, Diane, Rebecca, Carla, Frasier, Coach, Woody, Cliff, and of course… NORM… and throw one back for them this week!
