BLACK HISTORY MONTH THROWBACK SPOTLIGHT: It’s about TIME for TINA sans IKE.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is finally doing something right.
Back in 1991, Ike and Tina Turner were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a duo. Their 1960s and 70s act was well known, but what we didn’t know of at the time was the abuse that Ike put Tina through during the time. They received induction TOGETHER in this video from Phil Spector (also, creepy in his own right) at this ceremony.
But finally, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has realized, Tina deserves her OWN moment in the sun. She is a part of this year’s slate of nominees as a solo artist, not as a duo. While her talent makes her deserving ON ITS OWN MERIT, the situation of what she went through to be nominated alongside an ex as challenging as Ike makes it all the more worthwhile.
Tina, we’ll be rooting for your acceptance this year – ON YOUR OWN! You more than deserve it!
